Frame Sovereignty Collective

Frame Sovereignty is a multimedia collective run and led by indigenous artists centering indigenous and queer creatives.

The Frame Sovereignty Collective (FSC) was co-founded in 2017 by Amanda Strong, Bracken Hanuse Corlett, and Suna Galay, with collaborator Cease Wyss joining in 2019. Our goal at FSC is to build a healthy network of relationships across numerous artistic platforms, Indigenous communities, and educational institutions, and to provide skill enhancement opportunities for Indigenous artists by improving access to innovative technologies. With this in mind, it is our mission to share creative opportunities that support the independence, autonomy, and sovereignty of Indigenous artists across Canada and around the world.

While reclaiming Indigenous stories is at the core of what we do, we also work to strengthen our communities through training, mentorship, and skill development. It’s important for Indigenous artists to have time to research and experiment with creative technologies. By sharing opportunities and access to advancing technologies with Indigenous artists, we advocate for and strengthen Indigenous voices and stories.

Industry-based partnerships is one of our focuses, which contribute to skill set and capacity development and the sustainability of our organization, studio, and artists.  Through enhanced relationships with our partners, our collective benefits from an expansion of their body of work while grounding new digital technologies with the values and stories from the land. This model embeds Indigenous ideologies around learning, creating and collaboration.

This extends the possibilities for an increasingly dynamic and relevant conversation moving forward that ensures technology remains accountable to the knowledge keepers of this land and educates the community through experiential learning.

Our current partners include Emily Carr University of Art + Design’s (ECUAD) Material Matters Lab,  ECUAD’s Mixed Reality Lab, and Spotted Fawn Productions (SFP).
