Haboolm Ksinaalgat (SOUL CATCHER) is a spellbinding, supernatural journey into the heart of healing. Based on a true childhood story from the screenwriter and co-director Pamela Post’s Ts’msyen father, this captivating stop motion animated short film is a visually and sonically stunning adventure tale set on the mighty Ksyen (Skeena River).

Directed by Amanda Strong of Spotted Fawn Productions, with traditional Ts’msyen music arranged by a team of award-winning musicians, Soul Catcher celebrates the ways, worldviews and wonders of the Ts’msyen people as it sets out to right a wrong through art.

The acclaimed Cree/Métis actress, Tantoo Cardinal (Order of Canada), brings the 150-year-old halaayt (shaman) Gyilak’yoo (Robin) to supernatural life. The ancient matriarch passes on essential knowledge to her young gender-fluid, reluctant shaman’s apprentice, Lu’oo’ya (Echo), played by actor/singer Asher Wyatt Maclaren in a film based on his real-life grandfather’s true encounter with a devil-obsessed missionary in the early 20th century.

A time-and-shape-shifting stunning stop motion spectacle filled with intergenerational love and healing, the film dives under the Skeena River and swims with the oolichan, as it breathes life back into a culture and returns what was stolen.
